A King David Kind of Girl: Excerpt

This Bible study was originally written for my two girls when they were around 10 and 11 years old. I had already written a study for their older brother based on David, but I wanted them to have something from a girl's perspective.

I'm not a fan a Bible studies that tell me how to think when I read a Bible passage. I'd like for that to be between God and me. I desire the same for our children. I place a minimal amount of guiding information, stepping aside for them to find the answers solely from their Bible, not from me.

My purpose for writing these Bible studies is to help them place God in the center of everything and to encourage them to practice regular Bible time and build a relationship with Jesus.

This excerpt is close to the beginning of the study. Enjoy!

Lesson 3

A Youngster

A.  Read 1 Samuel 16:8-13.

Write a summary or your own thoughts of the reading:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Can you imagine the anticipation?  Which son of Jesse will it be? .... What?  David?  Are you sure??

David was the youngest, and he had the dirty work of watching the sheep.  Yet, he was chosen to do God’s work.  Did God give any regard to age?  No!  And God wants you to know this!

B.  The Bible talks about many people from history that were very young when they did God’s work.

Samuel heard God’s voice at a young age when he served Eli in the temple.

King Josiah became king of Israel when he was 8 years old.

Mary may have been as young as 14 when the angel Gabriel told her she would give birth to the Savior of the world.

Jesus was only 12 when He spoke with the teachers and scribes about the truths of the Old Testament.

Timothy was a very young man when he became a preacher.

How old are you?  It’s fun to think about what we want to do when we grow up; however, dear sister in Christ, you don’t have to wait until you’re older to do God’s work.  It is true that as you get older, you will become smarter and wiser, but today matters. There is something you can do for God today – read your Bible, choose kindness, choose honesty, choose forgiveness, be a helper, obey your parents, share God’s love,…..

So, what kind of work for God would you like to do today?

Dear Heavenly Father, give us courage to obey Your every calling, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
