Maybe it's because Monday is the next day after Sunday. My two high schoolers usually have tests on Mondays, and we have a busy schedule already on the calendar for the week. We need to prepare. We need lunch food, breakfast food, clean school clothes. We need club dues, picture dues, sports and field trips dues, and wait- what's overdue? Most of my busyness on Sunday is focused on school.
I am DONE with school taking over my Sabbath! It's up to me to not allow schoolwork to control my time and my family's time.
The fourth commandment: "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy" (Exodus 20:4). But the fourth verse says much more, giving clarity to the significance of this day:
It took me a while to, first of all, realize I overlooked this commandment. Subsequently, I disobeyed the sacred law. I have conformed to a cultural time-frame that has scooted a day of rest in the Lord away from possibility. Away from our thoughts of keeping this day HOLY.
Secondly, I realized that keeping the Sabbath holy was a frame of mind that I had to have every day of the week, not just on Sunday. I also realized Saturday preparation didn't seem to cut it. It became a readjustment of my lifestyle. We build the week, day by day, to rest in the Lord on Sundays, regarding the day as holy. A consecrated day. Set apart.
Attached is a "Sabbath Keeper" calendar I created to help me change my thoughts and actions throughout the day to reach Sundays with a heart of worship and rest. I believe God will do big things in a prepared, ready, and rested heart.
I hope this helps you and your family!
